Welcome to the Youth Action for Rural Development.

Youth Action for Rural Development (YARD) is an integrated Community based organization in Gatanga sub county in Central Province of Kenya that works with Muranga and Kiambu counties.  YARD was officially registered with the government in the year 2002.

About Yard,

YARD‘s goals include growing the capacities of our community leaders, helping them to effectively manage community projects and mentor new entrepreneurs.  YARD helps community members increase their ability to grow more food, and to grow plant products for market.  We also provide support for vulnerable children. At our center we hold classes in computer skills. YARD provides information on relevant and various topical issues that range from HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, water and sanitation, Community health, Low cost food production methods, Environmental conservation and rehabilitation, value addition and marketing.   

Involvement of schools in environmental conservation efforts through tree nurseries establishment- Food Security and Nutrition Project- FS&N.

YARD has a computer class that targets out of school youths, community leaders and the community at large who undergo basic computer training and the use and application of the computer packages offered.

The Gatanga community resource center and library is YARDs project, it was an initiative started when YARD identified information as a gap that limited communities make well informed choices and decisions there was a gap of the community getting access to information. The resource center acts as a hub for incoming and outgoing information, which is easily accessed by the Gatanga Community in general.

The Resource center and the library targets farmers; who are able to access information regarding upcoming technologies and skills on farming, environmentalists, Community health workers, teachers, children and other readers who may want to read books on fiction and other relevant topics of their choice. Most of the books and resources are donations by friends of YARD, any books, audio and visual aids made as donations are welcome.
